Privacy Policy

Ahln

This Privacy Policy explains how Ahln (the smart delivery service developed by Dub Dev Technologies – referred to as "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, stores, and processes your personal information. It applies to all users of the Ahln website (www.ahln.ae), the Ahln mobile application, and any associated hardware (such as Ahln smart delivery boxes). We are committed to protecting your privacy in compliance with applicable United Arab Emirates (UAE) data protection laws and relevant international standards. By using the Ahln services, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy and agree to the collection and use of your information as described herein.

1          Personal Data We Collect

We collect various types of personal data to provide and improve our services. This includes:

1.1        Account & Identity Data

Information you provide when creating an account or profile, such as your name, email address, phone number, physical delivery address, profile photograph, and login credentials.

1.2        Delivery & Usage Data

Information related to your deliveries and how you use our services. For example, we collect package tracking numbers, delivery history and timestamps, one-time passwords (OTP) or PIN codes used to access your Ahln smart box, records of device sharing (when you grant others access to your device), and related usage logs.

1.3        Device & Technical Data

Technical information from the devices you use to access Ahln. This includes your device type, operating system version, IP address, MAC address or device identifier, mobile network, and application usage logs. If your Ahln smart delivery box is equipped with a security camera or microphone, we also collect and process video and audio streams/recordings from the device for security and delivery verification purposes.

1.4        Location Data

If you grant permission, we may collect geolocation data from your mobile device to improve delivery accuracy (for example, to help couriers find your address or to provide location-based services). This location data is optional and only collected with your explicit device-level consent.

1.5        Support & Communication Data

Information you provide when you contact us for support or communicate with us. For instance, we may keep records of customer support inquiries, live chat or call recordings, email correspondence, and survey responses or feedback that you voluntarily provide.

1.6        Analytics Data

We gather aggregated data about how users interact with our website, app, and devices. This includes statistical or preference information such as feature usage rates, app performance metrics, and other analytical insights. This data is typically collected via cookies or similar technologies and does not directly identify you, but it helps us understand usage trends and improve our services.

Note: We generally do not collect sensitive personal data such as race, religion, or health information, as Ahln is focused on delivery services. We also do not intentionally collect any personal data from children under the age of 18, as our services are not directed at minors. If we become aware of any such data, we will take steps to delete it.

2          Use of Personal Data

We use the collected personal data to operate, maintain, and enhance the Ahln services. The main purposes for which we process your information include:

2.1        Providing and Managing Services

To provide our core smart delivery services, operate the Ahln website and app, and maintain the functionality of Ahln smart delivery boxes. This includes handling deliveries to your smart box, managing your account, and enabling features you request.

2.2        User Authentication and Security

To verify your identity when you log in and to authenticate users for secure access to the smart delivery box (for example, verifying OTPs/PINs). We also use data to prevent unauthorized access and to secure your account and deliveries.

2.3        Delivery Verification and Surveillance

To monitor and record video/audio streams from the Ahln smart box’s built-in camera (if installed) during delivery or access events. This allows us to verify deliveries, enhance security, and deter theft or misuse. For example, recorded footage may be used to confirm that a package was delivered to your box or to investigate an incident.

2.4        Notifications and Communication

To send you service-related communications. For instance, we will notify you (via push notification, SMS, or email) when a delivery is made or attempted, when someone accesses your Ahln box, or when there are important updates to the app or terms. We may also contact you with customer service messages or to respond to your inquiries.

2.5        Analytics and Improvements

To analyze how our website, app, and devices are performing and being used. We use usage data and analytics to fix bugs, optimize device performance, improve user interface and features, and develop new functionalities. This helps us enhance your experience and the overall efficiency of our services.

2.6        Customer Support and Troubleshooting

To provide technical and customer support, diagnose and fix issues you encounter, and assist you in using the Ahln services. We might use your submitted support tickets, error logs, or call recordings to resolve problems and ensure quality service.

2.7        Legal Compliance and Protection

To fulfill our legal obligations, such as complying with UAE laws, regulations, court orders, or law enforcement requests. Additionally, we may process data as necessary to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims and to enforce our Terms & Conditions (for example, to investigate fraud, abuse of our services, or violations of our agreements).

2.8        Legal Basis for Processing

We process personal data on one or more of the following legal bases:

2.8.1         Contractual Necessity

Much of our data processing is necessary to perform the contract between you (the user) and us. For example, we must process your address and delivery information to carry out the delivery service you signed up for.

2.8.2         Consent

Where required by law or where we choose to, we will rely on your consent for certain processing activities. For instance, we ask your consent before collecting precise location data or sending certain marketing communications. You have the right to withdraw your consent at any time (see Your Rights below).

2.8.3         Legitimate Interests

We process some data to pursue our legitimate business interests in a way that does not outweigh your privacy rights. For example, improving the security of our platform, preventing fraud, and analyzing usage patterns are activities based on our legitimate interests.

2.8.4         Legal Obligation

When applicable, we process and retain personal data to comply with a legal obligation, such as maintaining records for law enforcement, regulatory compliance, or court orders in the UAE.

3          Data Sharing and Disclosure

We treat your personal data with care and confidentiality. We do not sell or rent your personal information to third parties for their own marketing or other independent use. However, we may share your data with certain trusted parties in the following circumstances, solely for the purposes outlined in this Policy and with appropriate safeguards in place:

3.1        Within Dub Dev Technologies and Affiliates

We may share your information with our company (Dub Dev Technologies) and any affiliated or subsidiary entities for internal administrative purposes, data storage, and to facilitate the Ahln services. All such entities abide by this Privacy Policy and protect your data to the same standards.

3.2        Authorized Service Providers

We employ reputable third-party companies to perform services on our behalf, and it may be necessary to give them access to certain personal data for them to fulfill their functions. This includes, for example, cloud hosting providers (that store our application data and backups securely), payment processors (if applicable for any transactions), analytics and technology partners (that help us analyze usage or send notifications), customer support tools, and logistics or courier partners (who may need delivery information to handle your packages). These service providers are contractually obligated to use your data only for the purposes we specify and to protect it with appropriate confidentiality and security measures.

3.3        Business Partners

In some cases, we partner with other businesses or organizations to integrate or complement our services. For instance, if an e-commerce retailer or an online platform integrates Ahln for deliveries, we might share necessary delivery or account information with that partner to fulfill your delivery request. We only do this with partners that are bound to protect your data, and only to the extent needed to provide or improve the service you receive.

3.4        Legal Compliance and Protection

We may disclose your personal information if required to do so by UAE law or if we believe in good faith that such action is necessary to (i) comply with a legal obligation, such as a subpoena, court order, or government request; (ii) enforce our Terms & Conditions or other agreements; (iii) detect, prevent, or address fraud, security, or technical issues; or (iv) protect the rights, property, or safety of Ahln, Dub Dev Technologies, our users, or the public. For example, if a law enforcement authority legally requires footage from your Ahln box's security camera for an investigation, we may provide it as mandated by law.

3.5        Corporate Transactions

If Dub Dev Technologies undergoes a business transaction such as a merger, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of some or all of its assets, user information (including personal data) may be transferred as part of that deal. We will ensure that any such transfer of data is subject to confidentiality agreements and that your information remains protected. If the new entity's planned use of your data would differ from this Privacy Policy, you would be given notice and an opportunity to consent or opt out as applicable.

In all cases of sharing, we limit the personal data shared to only what is necessary for the third party to carry out its duties. We also require any third party receiving personal data to implement adequate privacy and security controls. Aside from the scenarios above, we will not disclose your personal data to any external party without your explicit consent.

4          Cookies and Tracking Technologies

Like most websites and mobile applications, Ahln uses cookies and similar tracking technologies to provide a smooth and personalized user experience:

4.1        Cookies

Cookies are small text files stored on your browser or device. We use cookies to remember your preferences (such as language or login session), keep you logged into your account, and gather information about how you navigate our site. For example, cookies help us recognize you when you return to the site and can save you from re-entering information. Some cookies are essential for the website’s functionality (for instance, to enable secure login or cart features), while others are optional and help us improve user experience.

4.2        Web Beacons and Similar Technologies

Our emails, website, or app may contain tiny graphic images or scripts (often called pixels or web beacons) that collect information about your interactions. For instance, they can tell us whether you opened an email or viewed a particular page. We use these to measure the effectiveness of our communications and to compile statistics about usage of our services.

4.3        Analytics and Advertising Tools

We utilize third-party analytics services (such as Google Analytics or similar) to collect information about app and website usage. These services may set their own cookies or identifiers to help us understand things like which pages are most frequently visited, how long users stay on a particular page, app performance metrics, and other usage patterns. This information is provided to us in aggregate form and helps us to optimize our services. At present, we do not use third-party advertising networks that track you across different sites, and we do not serve third-party ads within the Ahln app or website. Should that change in the future, we will update this Policy and seek any necessary consents.

4.4        Consent and Options

When you first visit our website, you will see a cookie consent banner or pop-up that allows you to accept or manage your cookie preferences in accordance with applicable law. You can choose to allow only certain categories of cookies (for example, only essential cookies). Please note that if you disable or reject certain cookies, some features of the site or app may not function properly (for instance, you may not be able to stay logged in or use interactive features).

4.4.1         Browser/Device Settings

In addition to our website controls, most web browsers and mobile devices allow you to delete or disable cookies and other tracking data. Please consult your browser or device settings for options to manage cookies or to reset advertising identifiers. Keep in mind that completely disabling cookies might affect your ability to use our services seamlessly.

4.5        Do-Not-Track Signals

Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" feature that lets you tell websites you do not want to be tracked. Currently, our site does not respond to Do Not Track signals, because there is not yet a common standard for how to interpret them. We treat all users' data according to this Privacy Policy, regardless of a Do Not Track signal.

By using our website or app, you consent to our use of cookies and tracking technologies as described above. You can withdraw or modify your cookie consent at any time by changing your browser/app settings or through our cookie preference tools (where available).

5          Data Retention and Inactivity

We retain your personal data for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this Policy, and as required or permitted by law. In general:

5.1        Active Accounts

If you have an active Ahln account, we will retain your personal information for the duration of your use of the services so that we can provide you with the service effectively (for example, to maintain your account, deliver packages, and show your delivery history).

5.2        After Account Closure or Inactivity

If you decide to deactivate your Ahln account or if your account becomes inactive, we will continue to retain your information for at least five (5) years from the date of deactivation/last use. Keeping data for this period allows us to comply with record-keeping obligations and is useful in case you return to reactivate your service or in the event of any dispute or inquiry that arises after you stop using Ahln. We may retain data beyond 5 years when necessary — for example, if required by law, regulation, or if we have an ongoing legitimate business interest (such as handling a legal claim, audit, or fraud prevention).

5.3        Camera Footage and Security Logs

Video and audio recordings from Ahln smart box cameras, access logs, and incident records may be retained for extended periods beyond the standard retention timeline. In many cases, we will keep such security-related data indefinitely or until it has fulfilled its purpose. This is to ensure that we have sufficient records to investigate incidents, resolve disputes (e.g. a missing package claim), or provide evidence in legal proceedings or law enforcement investigations, even if those occur long after the event. We store this data securely and restrict access to it (see Security Measures below).

5.4        Data Minimization

We do not keep personal data longer than necessary. In practice, this means that if certain data is no longer required for any of the purposes described, and we are not legally obligated to retain it, we will either irreversibly anonymize the data (so it can no longer be associated with you) or securely delete it. We perform periodic reviews of the data we hold to ensure it is still needed, especially for accounts that have been inactive for a long time.

5.5        Account Inactivity

If your account is inactive (meaning you have not logged in or there have been no deliveries or device interactions for an extended period), your data will still be maintained under the retention policy above. We currently do not automatically purge personal data due to inactivity alone, prior to the 5-year post-use period, unless you request deletion. This ensures that your account and data are available in case you return, and it allows us to meet legal obligations.

5.6        Ahln Hardware Activation

The Ahln smart delivery box and associated hardware begin functioning and collecting data once you install and activate them at your premises. There is no separate delayed activation period or additional waiting policy after installation – the device will immediately operate under the terms of this Privacy Policy as soon as it’s set up. (In other words, from the moment you start using the Ahln box, it may capture and transmit data as described in this Policy.) If you discontinue use of the hardware, data already collected from it will be retained as per the policies stated above.

Please note that even if you request deletion of your personal data or close your account, we may retain certain information for longer if necessary to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements. For example, we might retain some transaction records to comply with financial regulations, or keep a record that you opted out of communications to ensure we honor that request going forward. When retaining data, we continue to protect it in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

6          Security Measures

We take the security of your personal data very seriously and implement a range of technical and organizational measures to safeguard it:

6.1        Encryption in Transit and At Rest

All data transmitted between your device (website browser or mobile app) and our servers is encrypted using industry-standard protocols such as TLS/SSL. This means that when you use the Ahln app or site, your data (including login credentials, personal details, and video feeds) is shielded from interception. Additionally, sensitive data is encrypted at rest in our databases and storage systems, adding an extra layer of protection even if our data storage were accessed without authorization.

6.2        Secure Cloud Infrastructure

We store your data on secure servers, which may be cloud-based, that employ state-of-the-art security practices. Our servers are protected by firewalls, network monitoring, and other advanced security technologies to prevent unauthorized remote access. Regular backups are performed to prevent data loss, and those backups are also stored securely.

6.3        Authentication and Access Control

To prevent unauthorized access to your account, we require a password for login and encourage the use of strong, unique passwords. We also offer two-factor authentication (2FA) for your Ahln account as an extra layer of security (when enabled, a second verification step is needed to log in, such as a code sent to your phone). Internally, we strictly limit access to personal data: only employees or contractors with a need to know (for example, a customer support agent helping you with an issue or an engineer maintaining the system) can access personal information, and even then, only the minimum necessary data. All personnel with such access are bound by confidentiality obligations and are regularly trained in data protection best practices. For particularly sensitive data, such as video footage from your smart box, access is even more tightly controlled and logged to prevent misuse.

6.4        Hardware Security Features

The Ahln smart delivery box hardware is designed with security in mind. It includes features such as anti-tamper sensors (to detect and alert if someone attempts to physically break into or disable the box), secure locks, and encryption for communications and stored footage on the device. The device’s firmware is periodically updated to address security vulnerabilities and to ensure the latest protections. We recommend that users install updates promptly when pushed to the device or app.

6.5        Monitoring and Testing

We continually monitor our systems for possible vulnerabilities and attacks. We use intrusion detection systems and maintain audit logs for critical systems, including records of when authorized personnel access user data. Regular security assessments, penetration testing, and code reviews are conducted to identify and fix potential security issues proactively.

6.6        Incident Response

In the unlikely event of a data breach or security incident, we have a response plan in place. We will promptly contain and investigate the incident, and take necessary action to remediate and prevent recurrence. If a data breach results in a high risk to your rights and freedoms, we will notify you and the appropriate authorities as required by law.

6.7        User Responsibilities

While we take extensive measures to protect your data, it is also important that you play a role in keeping your information secure. Please use a strong, unique password for your Ahln account and do not share it with others. Be cautious of phishing attempts or unsolicited communications asking for your account information. Always secure your own devices with passcodes or biometric locks to prevent unauthorized access. If you suspect any unauthorized activity or breach of your account, notify us immediately so we can assist in securing your account.

Despite all the measures we employ, no security system is completely foolproof. The internet and connected devices inherently carry some risk. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal data, we cannot guarantee absolute security. In the event of a security compromise, we will follow applicable laws and regulations to inform affected users and take all possible remedial steps.

7          Your Rights

Under UAE data protection law (and aligned with international best practices), you have several rights regarding your personal data. We are committed to upholding these rights. Subject to certain legal exceptions, you have the right to:

7.1        Access Your Information

You can request confirmation of whether we hold personal data about you, and you can ask for a copy of the information we have about you. This enables you to know and verify the legality of our processing.

7.2        Correct/Rectify Your Data

If any of your personal data is inaccurate or incomplete, you have the right to request that we correct or update it. We strive to ensure that your data is accurate, and we encourage you to keep your profile information up to date.

7.3        Delete Your Data (Right to Erasure)

You can ask us to delete your personal data in certain circumstances – for example, if the data is no longer necessary for the purposes it was collected, or if you withdraw your consent (where applicable) and no other legal basis for processing applies. Upon such request, we will delete or anonymize your data, provided we do not have a legal obligation or other legitimate reason to retain it. Please note, due to our data retention policy, certain data may be retained as described in Data Retention above (for instance, basic records for legal compliance or to resolve disputes). We will inform you of what data can and cannot be deleted at the time of your request.

7.4        Restrict Processing

You have the right to request that we limit the processing of your personal data under specific conditions. For example, if you contest the accuracy of your data, you can request a restriction on processing while we verify the information. Similarly, if you believe our processing is unlawful or you want to keep data we would otherwise delete (for use in a legal claim), you can ask us to restrict processing. When processing is restricted, we will still store your data but will not use it for other purposes without your consent (except for storage or as needed for legal claims, etc.).

7.5        Object to Processing

You can object to our processing of your personal data when such processing is based on our legitimate interests or for direct marketing purposes. Direct Marketing Opt-Out: If we send you any direct marketing communications (e.g., newsletters or promotional offers), you have the right to object and opt out at any time. We include an “unsubscribe” link in marketing emails for your convenience. Legitimate Interests Objection: If you object to processing that we carry out based on our legitimate interests, we will evaluate your objection and stop or adjust processing unless we have compelling legitimate grounds that override your interests, rights, and freedoms or if the processing is needed for legal reasons.

7.6        Withdraw Consent

Where we process your personal data based on your consent, you have the right to withdraw that consent at any time. For example, if you previously gave permission for location tracking or marketing emails, you can revoke that permission by changing your app settings, clicking "unsubscribe" in an email, or contacting us. Once you withdraw consent, we will stop the relevant processing that was based on consent. Please note that withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of any processing done prior to your withdrawal. If you reinstall or use the service again, we might ask for your consent again for those features.

7.7        Data Portability

To the extent required by law, you may have the right to request a copy of certain personal data in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format so that you can transfer it to another service provider. (This typically applies to data you provided to us directly and which we process by automated means.) We will assist with such requests as far as is technically feasible.

7.8        Lodge a Complaint

We hope to resolve any query or concern you raise about our use of your data, but if you feel that we have not addressed your issues satisfactorily, you have the right to file a formal complaint. In the UAE, the data protection supervisory authorities (such as the UAE Data Office or other relevant regulatory body) are responsible for overseeing and enforcing data protection law. You have the right to contact these authorities to lodge a complaint about how we have handled your personal data. We will cooperate fully with any official inquiries and instructions from regulators.

To exercise any of your rights, please contact us using the information in the Contact section below. We will respond to your request as soon as possible and within the timeframe required by law. Please note that to protect your privacy and security, we may need to verify your identity before fulfilling certain requests (for example, by asking you to confirm details or log into your account). If your request is particularly complex or if we have a high volume of requests, we will inform you if we need more time to respond. There is typically no fee for exercising your rights, but if a request is unfounded or excessive (for instance, repetitive requests), we may charge a reasonable fee or decline to comply as permitted by law.

Keep in mind that these rights are subject to certain limitations. For example, we cannot provide data that would violate another person’s privacy, and in some cases we may retain data if required by law even if you request deletion. If we refuse any part of your request, we will provide you with a justification, subject to legal restrictions.

8          Policy Updates

We may update or modify this Privacy Policy from time to time. As our services evolve or laws change, we might make changes to how we collect or use personal data, and we will reflect those changes in an updated Privacy Policy. When we do so, we will change the "Last Updated" date at the top of the policy (if displayed), and in the case of significant changes, we will provide a prominent notice or direct notification to users:

8.1        Notification of Changes

For any significant or material changes to the Policy, we will notify you in advance through channels such as email, in-app notifications, or a notice on our website. Minor updates (such as clarifications or typographical corrections) may be posted without a specific notice, but the updated Policy will always be available on our website.

8.2        Reviewing Updates

We encourage you to periodically review this Privacy Policy to stay informed about how we are protecting your information. If you continue to use Ahln services after updates to the Privacy Policy take effect, it will constitute your acknowledgment of the changes and agreement to the revised policy.

8.3        Consent for Major Changes

If any update would materially change how we handle your data in a way that requires your consent (for example, if we ever plan to process your data for a new purpose that relies on consent), we will obtain your consent before proceeding with that new processing.

By keeping you informed of changes, we aim to ensure that you always understand our privacy practices. Your privacy is important to us, and we will not reduce your rights under this Privacy Policy without your explicit consent.

9          Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

This Privacy Policy, as well as any disputes arising from or related to the handling of personal data under this Policy, are governed by the laws of the United Arab Emirates. Specifically, we operate in compliance with UAE federal law and regulations concerning data protection and privacy.

By using Ahln services, you agree that any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or in connection with this Privacy Policy or our treatment of your personal data shall be resolved exclusively by the competent courts of Dubai, UAE. You consent to the jurisdiction of these courts and waive any objections to such jurisdiction or venue (unless you have rights under consumer protection laws that mandate a different forum).

We emphasize that our intention is to fully comply with UAE privacy laws. While we strive to adhere to international data protection standards as applicable, any legal matters will be adjudicated according to UAE law. In the event of a dispute, we hope to first resolve the issue amicably through our support channels or mediation, but if escalation is necessary, the laws and courts of Dubai will govern and decide the matter.
